Students from Springfield High School, Matugga visited the International Crimes Division at their new home at Lourdel Road, Kampala to learn how the specialized court operates.

The students were taken on a guided tour of the Court premises; later they attended a court session where parties had agreed to a plea bargaining.

Hon. Justice Richard Wejuli Wabwire, outlined for the students some of the case categories that the Court handles. These included War Crimes, Crimes against Humanity, Genocide, Terrorism, Human trafficking, Piracy and other international crimes.

HW Juliet Hatanga, the Deputy Registrar of the Division, took the students through the formation of the specialized court. "Considering the civil wars and a series of other internal conflicts, which Uganda has experienced, it was decided to establish the ICD to try the perpetrators of war crimes and crimes against humanity including commanders of the LRA and other rebel groups," she said.

Adding that the Court was set up in 2008 to fulfill Government's commitment to the actualization of Juba Agreement on Accountability and Reconciliation.
